Lebanon Orphanage Renovation 2019

In February 2019, Happy Kidz Canada took the initiative to support Dar El Awlad Boys Home, an orphanage in Lebanon catering to orphaned and at-risk boys, including many Syrian, Iraqi, and Sudanese refugees.

To assess their needs, we sent our missionary member, Ms. Camilia Doro, a retired Ontario teacher who grew up in an orphanage, to visit the home. Despite the boys being loved and cared for, they were still in desperate need of support.

After thorough assessment and discussions with onsite caretakers, it became evident that several areas required attention:

  • Beds & Mattresses – The boys’ beds and mattresses, which were over 27 years old, were in deplorable condition, with squeaky, rusty frames and stained mattresses. With the help of our supporters, Happy Kidz Canada provided and installed 34 new beds and mattresses, along with refurbishing closets and chests of drawers.
  • The Kitchen – The kitchen appliances, also over 27 years old, were dysfunctional, broken, and covered in mold. The stove and oven were unreliable, with only two burners working, and the fridge was beyond repair, failing to maintain a safe temperature zone. Additionally, the kitchen lacked essential equipment like a deep fryer, and utensil drawers were in poor condition. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to purchase and install new appliances, ensuring the boys have access to a safe and functional kitchen environment.

We are thrilled to report that the project has been successfully completed, and the boys at Dar El Awlad are excited about the improvements, kindly feel free to review the before and after pictures. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this project a reality.
